CREATE :

We are very passionate about creating new projects, opportunities, workshops and anything innovative that the people from the communities we work with get an exposure into. We together create a space for social participation and a safe space for conversations. Do check out our stories section to see ways we have created participatory art practices. So, if you have a project in mind to create with us, we would love to hear from you!

COLLABORATE :

We believe in collaborations and the power of participatory art projects and planning. We work on a project-by-project basis on research & production based grants, wall art, digital art, performance arts and other commissioned projects. The design, imagery and message of an artwork is put together with the knowledge and wisdom shared by lovely people from the community. We seek collaborations with other organizations, government bodies, institutions, corporates/ companies, schools…so basically anyone who wants to add and introduce art and inclusion into their world!

CONTACT :

When we are not on projects, our team researches and documents the unique localized cultures, rituals, festivals, challenges, concerns, and celebrations of the Transgender community. We experiment with local colors, patterns, motifs, language, ritual, and story and we respect and embrace local religions and spiritual beliefs. If you are an artist, curator, researcher, documentarian or anyone from the creative industry. We would love to hear your ideas and see if it fits with our work ethics, contact us! Age and gender no bar.

BE A PART OF THE ARAVANI FAMILY :

We only seek volunteers when necessary. We’d like our work and growth to be organic.

Founder’s Note : For the past few years, I have been using public art to enable social participation, to engage in peacekeeping and to create awareness around social issues. As a wall muralist, freelance artist, amateur anthropologist, story keeper and the founder of Aravani Art Project, my purpose of using the Arts for the betterment of the society collectively has been a driving force and the encouragement has brought us this far. Aravani art project is a collective for people from the transgender community, queer community, children, women and sometimes men. We have formed a collective to access public spaces, to break stereotypes, creating awareness and more visibility to celebrate unity and equality with the people from the Transgender community, sex workers and the informal sector by and large. By making art together we are seeking to gently reshape these politics of inclusion and exclusion that surround gender identities. The struggle for accepting and understanding the identities of Transgender individuals exists in each society, race, and class. We are now finding more magical ways to engage the community to come out in the public spaces and feel confident, safe and belonged. Let’s make this a better place than it already is!
